"There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."
- Nelson Mandela

One of my favorite quotes is this one by Nelson Mandela.  I found it one day when I was searching for inspirational quotes (mostly centered around perseverance and tenacity) for a good friend/fellow graduate student of mine who was writing her doctoral thesis.  Here is the thing about graduate school: when you're working day to day in a space with no windows, your inspiration and drive can give way to tedium and you can get tunnel vision.

This is where A Little Runner comes in.  Graduate school is important and I firmly believe education should be a top priority.  However, work-life balance is pretty important to one's emotional and physical well being.  Not having a balance means ignoring other areas of one's potential.  In my case, I've put aside a lot of things I used to do: blogging, drawing, photography, guitar, and in general, creating things.

A Little Runner is my attempt and springboard to make time for hobbies instead of procrastinating on them in favor of Netflix.  I figure having a space to document my endeavors would be nice even if no one reads this.  Well, here goes.

  1. 'Not having a balance means ignoring other areas of one's potential.' LOVE this sentiment. By the by, I really think you'd enjoy Rae's blog - One of my favourite reads as of late. x

    1. I think that sentiment is totally true. Unless you actively make time for hobbies, I've found (both among me and my friends) that graduate school manages to really suck all your time and it's much easier to be lazy and binge watch Netflix rather than doing something productive.

Thanks for the rec - I checked it out and I'm pretty impressed!
