The Sunday #6

It's the last day of January!  Ah, where did the month go?  It's been three weeks since I've written a roundup post, too.  I bring you this week's Sunday post from the couch of the home where I am dog sitting.  By the way, check out how she's laser focused on the soy milk in my hand!

DESIGN.  I think I may have finally settled on a blog design.  It's still a toss up between committing to a monochromatic theme or muted colors, because I really love both.  Am I the only person who seems to have ADD with their layout?  I draw a lot of inspiration from the beautiful, clean layouts I see.  It's a bit of a balancing act to make something that I feel reflects my aesthetic while trying to make it look distinct from everything out there.

50 SHADES.  My girlfriends and I are going to see 50 Shades of Black tonight.  It's a parody of 50 Shades of Grey, which was the one of the best unintentional comedies since The Room.  When we saw the original in theaters, we were that obnoxious bunch snorting and snickering through its entirety.  Watch these movies with friends.

THE GIRL GANG.  I've been seeing #TheGirlGang on Twitter a lot so I decided to check it out.  It's this great community run by Jemma at Dorkface.  I think this type of girl-with-girl support and solidarity is really awesome.  Sometimes, I see bigger bloggers pull out the ladder from beneath them and this is just the opposite.  The Girl Gang is also a great way to discover new blogs.  One of the first things I did was go through the list of members and subscribe to new reading.  Check it out here.

CAMERA.  I've decided I'm going to carry my DSLR around in my backpack and take shots on my lunch breaks.  I keep telling myself I'll take "serious" photographs "when I have time," but there never really is a "good" time because all I ever do is a) go to lab, b) go to the gym, c) shower and eat, and d) fall asleep watching Netflix because I'm exhausted.  I take for granted that I can see the mountains from my campus and that I'm surrounded by architecture, eucalyptus, and olive trees.  There's plenty of beauty to capture every day if I just look.

LINKLOVE.  I'm going to start sharing blogs with my Sunday posts.  Dorkface:  Jemma writes honestly and keeps it real.  She also writes helpful posts on blogging.  I wish I hadn't found Felicia's blog right on the cusp of when she went on hiatus.  I want to say she writes about food, feminism, and fiction all coupled with beautiful photography, but none of those descriptions really do her justice.  This post hooked me.  Felicia writes beautifully and intelligently.  Trust me, these two ladies are well worth the time to read.

Now I'm off to try to get some things done before this Sunday is over.  It's raining pretty heavily today which is unheard of for Southern California.  All I want to do is stay home instead.  If this isn't first world whining, I don't know what is. XO

  1. thanks for sharing the links! will have to check them out!

  2. Ahh, I miss the good old days when everyone used to change their blog design about once a week. Loving your current version though!
I recently discovered The Girl Gang too and it seems like such a breath of fresh air, looking forward to getting involved in the chats and finding lots of new blogs to follow.

  3. January really did go by way too fast. Pretty sure 2016 JUST started so this is just baffling and unsettling, haha. I'm a big fan of the muted colors as well for your header!

I've also been noticing #TheGirlGang lately on Twitter and I'm loving it!

  6. Can't wait to see some more of your photography! I remember I used to carry my camera around with me all the time back in the day (remember those My Week In Photos posts I did?) and rarely remember to nowadays. Although I suppose I'm much better at it lately! Hope you've been doing ok! x

  7. I know right! January went by way too quickly! And TheGirlGang is an amazing community, so proud to be a part of it :) x

  8. Thanks for sharing the links I will def check them out. Love the style of your blog by the way. I'm also still searching for what fits my blog but I like the more minimalistic ones. xx

  9. I think carrying around the DSLR is a great idea! I used to do it a lot more but sometimes you never know where you might find a bit of inspiration. Can't wait to see what blog design you choose - it's always so refreshing when you change it up a little. Breathes new life into the blog sometimes doesn't it?

  10. I'm totally the same when it comes to my layout! I' always editing and moving things about and adding splashs of colour here and there and then I'll just revert it back to the original argh. Glad to see that found the girl gang too!

  13. I think it's often when we have some restraints that we push ourselves to find creative and unique photos. Hope inspiration strikes when you're out with your DSLR ;)

  14. I love the Girl Gang I still have yet to get involved with the chat thats something I really want to do once again gotta find time lol! I need to carry my camera around it would save up so much time doing photography and I can multitask. I may try to give this a go! I would love to go see 50 Shades of black, I almost forgot that came out this month! I know it has to be hilarious when the the Wayans are involved haha!
