Sunday #17: Up In The Hills

The terrace.

Another Sunday past (okay, this post actually goes up on Monday) and it's the last day of July.  I can't believe the summer is almost over.  August seemed so far away when I outlined work plans in the spring and now it's here.

PARTY.  My boss held his annual pool party.  The house is situated up in the hills and all the photographs today were taken from this vantage point.  It's nice to interact with people outside of the "office" (aka, lab).  One of my colleagues made a delicious grilled spicy shrimp dish that I think is very similar to this one that I'm interested in making.

The gate.

WALKING.  I've been pretty lax about going to the gym lately; I only made it once this week!  On lazy days, I've been booting up Pokémon Go and taking 3 mile long walks.  This coming week, I intend to make it on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at the very least.  I picked up some Under Armour shorts for 50% off this week so exercising will give me an excuse to wear them.

IDENTIFICATION.  My state ID from Philadelphia expires at the end of this month and it turns out that I need my passport to get a California ID.  Unfortunately, that passport is both expired and damaged.  Here is my dilemma: I can't get my passport without my ID.  I can't get my ID without my passport.  Quite the pickle, eh?  Thankfully, I was able to rush to my local passport office and discuss the situation.  Barring any extra paperwork (fingers crossed very tightly), I should be able to get my passport in the mail to solve my problem.  The day I had to deal with this was the most stressful part of the week.  I was at the DMV twice and at the passport office later.  I took a total of six Ubers that day.  SIX.  I hope I never have to repeat this experience again.

The best view.

•  JoJo released F**k Apologies.  I am SO excited for her new album to come out.
•  I love eating at Din Tai Fung.  I always get an order of pickled cucumbers as a starter.  I'm craving some right now so I'm going to adapt this recipe tonight and get pickling!
•  Hilary Clinton made history this past week as the first female candidate in a major political party.  It took us so long to elect our first black president.  I'm hoping we elect our first female president.

  1. I'm so excited about Hilary Clinton becoming the first female candidate for presidents! It's a big step in USA history. Our country, Lithuania, has chosen women for a president in 2009 and she has been reelected for a second time as well and that shows that women can be as powerful leaders as men :)

  4. I love your imagery! And I definitely hope that the US will have their first female president - I've been oddly invested in the whole campaign and 100% plan to stay up to watch it from the UK in November x

  13. That view is just stunning! It must be divine for your boss to wake up to that every day! And I LOVE Din Tai Fung's cucumbers too! I could probably eat two plates by myself if it wasn't so pricey, haha!

  14. Experiences with the DMV or the passport office are always stress inducing. Worst places to be for the most part, especially if you're impatient like me, heh. Also, one of my new goals in life is to have a pool so I can throw pool parties of my own. ;)
