Trader Joe's Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub

Trader Joe's Blueberry Acai Facial Scrub

I love Trader Joe's.  It's like a smaller Whole Foods and the employees are always super friendly so I'm in there fairly often.  My boyfriend once said, "Get everything you need so we're not here three times a week."  But there's so much to buy!  Apple blossoms!  Green tea mochi!  Turkish honey!  Matcha cookies!  Kale!  And . . . this Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub.

I was like, "Girl, you do not need another skincare product.  Don't waste your money."  The little devil on my shoulder was like, "Girl, it's only $5.99, tho."  I walked away, but it ended up in my basket at the till because who can pass up a face scrub like this?  Worth.  Every.  Penny.

The blueberry and acai scrub comes house in a 2 oz frosted glass jar with a silver lid.  There's something about weighted glass containers that feel incredibly luxurious in the hand.  You can see the full list of ingredients on their website, and I'm pleased that the second ingredient is blueberry fruit and not filler.  The product smells like fresh berries.  Absolutely delightful.

Trader Joe's Blueberry Acai Facial Scrub, Review, Lumière & Lens, Affordable Beauty

The exfoliation comes from the alpha hydroxy acids in the scrub: citric acid, malic acid, and lactic acid, which are all high on the ingredient list.  Alpha hydroxy acids are carboxylic acids with hydroxyl groups (the OH) adjacent to the COOHs.  In beauty products, alpha hydroxy acids are used for chemical exfoliation.  Using a sunscreen is recommended because you're basically removing the top layer of skin, but you should be using one anyways!  And before anyone wants to give me a lecture on "chemical nasties" and going "chemical free," I'm going to stop you right there to let you know that's a big fat marketing gimmick of a lie.

Does it work?  I've been using it for about a week so far.  I've noticed that my skin is softer and smoother to the touch.  The smoothness is palpable immediately after use.  My makeup applies more evenly and has greater longevity than usual despite spending long days in lab.  I've had no adverse reactions; I'm hoping they don't discontinue this product, because I like it way more than my granulated facial scrub!  I'd highly recommend picking this up the next time you're at Trader Joe's!

  1. I saw this last week when I went to Trader Joe's, contemplated on buying it but walked out with only a bottle of some vanilla spiced chai (which wasn't even that great). I'll definitely have to go back soon if you're claiming it smells like fresh blueberries.

Also, matcha cookies?! SAY WHAAAAT. How have I not come across such a delicacy!?

  2. this looks like a straight up gelato. no lie. i'm glad it does work well. such deal is too good to be missed and it's great that it delivers.

  3. Ohhh, this looks like really good froyo. I love skincare that looks as luscious as that. I wish we had a traderjoe's or something alike here in Holland. And 5.99 is a bargain. Nice!

  4. THIS LOOKS AMAZING. I wish we had Trader Joe's here T__T and at such a great price too! I love the ingredients too; I love chemical exfoliators too, they're so easy to use and much better for my super sensitive skin. Once I used a physical exfoliator I broke out so bad it took about 1.5 months to recover. Although when I was in NY, the line in Trader Joe's was so long I could die so I left and didn't get anything...

  5. Your statement about Trader Joe's being a smaller Whole Foods is on point! I love shopping there and their frozen section has a lot of nice selections! I never knew they had a facial scrub. For $5.99 it sounds like a steal! It makes sense that a layer of your skin is removed from the acids. Thanks for the recommendation. I need to go visit a TJ's soon!

  6. Gosh, this sounds like it would smell amazing!! I usually get sucked in when it comes to fruity/tasty smelling skincare products haha. I'm always hearing about the legendary products at Trader Joe's and reallywish I could try it out for myself!

  7. I have only recently discovered Trader Joe's Beauty... at $6, I'll definitely be picking it up next time. They also get me with their cheap wine.

  8. I use this face scrub as well as their Lavender Sea Salt Scrub, Vitamin E and Jojoba Oil and I have seen a major improvement on my skin!! I am 6 months pregnant and was advised to use the sea salt scrub to avoid getting stretch marks. The scrub along with the vitamin E oil works is amazing and I have not had one mark yet. I use the face scrub once a week and use the jojoba oil to clean my skin at night and I can honestly say this stuff is ahhhhmazing. I sometimes go without using make up because my skin feels so great.

  9. Love the facial scrub. I use it daily. I apply it immediately when I get in the shower, let it work its magic while showering/washing my hair. The fragrance is great too! I have found that its not harsh, refreshes my facial skin. After using the facial scrub I then use the Trader Joes Hyaluronic Moisture Boost Serum (also, inexpensive), then following with a moisturizer. My skin looks great and no breakouts. Why spend big bucks when you have these products at a very reasonable cost. Huntington Beach, CA.
