Sunday #53: Pasadena, Santa Monica, Los Angeles

Photograph by Ana.

Whoo!  Sunday night!  Mine was pretty packed and I'm tired.  I had two photoshoots, a music festival, and regular life things in between.  I had handed in my most recent draft of writing to my advisor Friday so it was a good weekend overall!

SANTA MONICA

My friend Ana had the idea to go to Santa Monica this past week for an evening.  Believe it or not, I've never been to Santa Monica Pier or the beach.  I'm terrible at this whole California thing!  After an hour long drive, we rented a tandem bicycle (another new experience) and rode along the shoreline, into the setting sun, with the sea breeze blowing through our hair.  All we needed was a Lana Del Rey song playing in the background because it felt like being in on of her videos!  Riding along that shoreline felt like flying.  We grabbed burgers at Stout and finished out the night with a ride on the Ferris Wheel.  It was so much fun!  Good company, good times.

MY HAPPY PLACE

I've done headshots for Grant at Lost Art Creative a couple of times in the past.  This week, he hired me for a short session in Pasadena so I did that on Friday.  Today, I had another shoot with Roberta so it was a lot of photographing over the past three days!  Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.  Taking pictures if my happy place, especially the editing process, which takes a good image to a great image.  Tonight, I'm trying to squeeze in some edits before the arrival of Monday.  In case you missed it, I shared a recent photo shoot his past week!

BURGERS, FYF FESTIVAL

On Friday, my friends and I went to eat burgers at The Counter, a trip we'd been planning for two weeks.  All in all, I'd say I ate a lot of good (but unhealthy food).  On Saturday, my boyfriend and I went to FYF Festival in Exposition Park to see MGMT, Built To Spill, and Tribe Called Quest.  It was quite a good Saturday; we don't get a lot of time to do things outside of Pasadena just for the two of us.

Want to hear something funny?  When we were watching Built To Spill jam, these two girls jumped in front of us to film Instastories of themselves dancing and having fun, which would've been entirely plausible if they didn't leave right after taking the videos.  It was the most inauthentic and bizarre thing I'd seen that night.

How was your week?  What were you least and most favorite parts?

  1. I really love that first photo of you in Santa Monica, Alyse! And gasp, you mentioned Lana del Rey! She's one of my favorite artists! I can totally imagine Summertime Sadness playing in the background? Or maybe National Anthem? Hm... the choices.

And I'm still in shock over that story about the two girls! Social media has definitely changed the course of how people go to concerts/events. It's really sad.

My week was great! Actually put in exercise everyday except Saturday, which is a record for me because that hasn't happened in forever! :o Hopefully I keep up with it this week. Have a great week ahead of you, Alyse!

  2. What a busy weekend you had! Gorgeous photos of you guys by the water! Tandem bikes?! Super jelly, that's definitely one of Dan and my bucket list items! And what a bizarre story of those inauthentic girls. How ridiculous to fake all that!! I saw MGMT on your Instastory and wished I was there! I have always wanted to see them in concert. My weekend was slower this time around because we spent it unboxing some of our belongings (we moved a few weekends ago)!

  3. Santa Monica is so picturesque and Californian! It does sound like a Lana del Rey music video, haha. Sounds like a solid weekend!

  4. Packed indeed, but it sounds like a great time! These photos are gorgeous. They're the very definition of Summer, I swear. The Instastories thing is so weird, and it probably happens all the time. I don't get it.

I suddenly can't remember anything from my week? Wait! I went to my niece's birthday party. It's all such a blur.

I hope your new week is just as full and enjoyable!

  5. Loving how you've been husting with all of these neato life experiences ;). Haha, don't worry about doing the California thing XD. I've lived here my whole life and barely go to the beach as it is. (I'm scared of tanning XD). You had some amazing views out in Santa Monica!

I love how you're bringing the life out of people with these photoshoots! Loving your work so far! I haven't been to The Counter before but the burger on the website made me super hungry XD.

Glad to see you taking advantage of what SoCal has to offer! ;)

  6. I am so impressed by how packed your weekend's gone- all while juggling around with school! Ugh, I've heard so many good things about Santa Monica and having the wind blowing your hair while biking along the shoreline sounds amazing. My past weekend was nothing compared to yours hahah. Have an amazing rest of the week! X

  9. Sounds like you had a good week! I unfortunately do not have a great eye for photography (my photos are crap no matter how beautiful the subject lol), so I'm always envious of people who take great ones lol. I'm bothered by how people post all these instastories on social media, I'm pretty sure people who are having fun in a concert would snap a couple of photos but ultimately just enjoy themselves. (at least that is what happens with me)
